This new section will give updates and information of of our trackwork projects as and when they occur.

We start the page off with the building of an extension to our tramway which will be needed in order to accommodate the delivery of Martello in May. The whole project was completed in the first weekend in April clearly demonstrates the  determination and skill of our volunteer PW gang. You can click on the pictures to see enlargements.

The tramway extension - Getting started
spur1.jpg (102004 bytes) Although it's April 1st, this is no joke - and even before our intrepid photographer could get onto site, our dedicated PW gang had already used the Hy-Mac to scrape out the ground ready for our tramway spur, and were testing the depth and level using short lengths of rail on concrete sleepers in the trench.

The tramway extension - Day 1
spur3.jpg (82072 bytes) It is not long before the all the sleepers are laid out in the trench ready to receive the rail. The PW gang have gone off for a well earned Lavender Line Breakfast.

The tramway extension - Day 2
spur4.jpg (84279 bytes) By Sunday the rail had all been jointed and the levels checked and packed down ready for backfilling. The final job was packing the ground. Now we have a smart new extension to our tramway which will enable stock to be offloaded no matter which way around it has been loaded on the delivery trailer.
